Lesson Plans
Our lesson plans are creation based and designed to improve teamwork and help students gain a new understanding of their place and responsibility in our environment.
These hands-on activities allow for participants to leave behind the constraints of the outside world. Instead, students will experience a "live classroom" in which they will take samples from the South Fork of the Merced River and study them, walk to a waterfall, touch a salamander, taste manzanita berries and catch their breath at the enormity of stars and mountains as though experiencing them for the first time.
Note: Students are required to engage all their senses.
CW Outdoor School Offers...
The best part about Camp Wawona's Outdoor School is that it is located in Yosemite National Park. This gives students the opportunity to be inspired by nature like Ansel Adams, photographer and environmentalist, and many of our greatest literary artists; Robert Frost and John Muir, who was also a naturalist and conservationist.
Whether it is the freedom to think creatively, freedom to explore new ideas, or freedom to be who and what you wish, Camp Wawona has proven to offer a program that students thrive on.
Staff love to provide opportunities to combine fun and learning, therefore students will experience some of the following:
Wawona Point, Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias, Yosemite Valley, Yosemite Falls, Mirror Lake, Taft Point, Sentinel Dome.
All activities are guided by trained professionals.
Camp Wawona's Outdoor School curriculum meets the California state education standards including the Environmental Education Initiative.
